Jo Asgeir Lie is a versatile accordionist, and composer from the Hallingdal valley in Norway. He is currently employed as principal for the Ole Bull Academy in Voss. At the same time, he is one of the most prominent accordionists in Norway today, as performer, pedagogue and composer.

Through his own performance, and through administrative work over the past 20 years, he has exerted great influence on today’s Norwegian folk music.

Much of Jo Asgeir Lie’s work has been in association with the folk music group called Kvarts [Quartz].This ensemble, founded in 1998, has toured both nationally and internationally. Kvarts has recorded eight albums, two of which were awarded Spellemannprisen [The Norwegian Grammy Award]. It has worked together with many other musicians, and also had successful collaboration with, KORK, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. In association with Kvarts, Jo Asgeir has composed music for theater, as well as works commissioned for several festivals.

You and me is the title of the CD released in 2016 by him and his wife, Ingunn Stræte Lie. Their repertoire is based on traditional music from Hallingdal combined with their own compositions.

His music reflects influences from a variety of styles and genres, absorbed from music he has worked with and been inspired by.
