Thomas Arena was born in Soriano Calabro on 10/09/1987, he began self-taught studying accordion at the age of six years; later he enrolled at the Conservatory “Fausto Torrefranca” of Vibo Valentia and in 2007 he graduated with highest honors.
In 2009 he began studying chromatic accordion with Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi winner of the World Trophy C.M.A. 2001 held in Lorient (France).
He attended master classes with Massimiliano Pitocco, Yuri Shishikin, Mika Vayrynen, Nada Yespica.
Winner of numerous national and international competitions, among which:
– 1st prize at the thirty-fifth Castelfidardo International Competition, Category D (soloists without age limit)
– 1st prize at the 13th International Music Competition of the Val Tidone “Young Talents” held in Pianello Val Tidone (Piacenza)
– 1st prize at the II European Music Competition held in Filadelfia (VV)
– 1st prize at the 32nd National Music Competition held in Lamezia Terme, “Contemporary Music” section.
– 1st prize at the First National Competition of Musical Performance “CITTA ‘DEL SOL” held in
Portopalo di Capo Passero (Siracusa)
– 1st prize at the II European music international competition “City of Acre”
– 2nd place at the International Competition “L’Estro Armonico” held in Ladispoli (RM)
– 2nd place at the Fifth International Competition City of Greeks (AV)
– 3rd prize at the VII International Contest “FISA … ARMONIE 2009” held in TRIESTE
Besides his concert activity at the national level, he participated in the March 2008 assembly dramaturgical from Homer’s Odyssey, which took place in Athens (Greece).
He has worked as a soloist with the orchestras of Pizzo Calabro Limonest breath and directed by M ° Diego Ventura and Arnaud Caumeil.
In 2010 he performed as a soloist at the Victoria Theater in Pennabilli (RN) for the poet and screenwriter Tonino Guerra. He has recorded for the label FIRE MUSIC Edupatès the CD for accordion and oboe and has made recordings on behalf of Vatican Radio and the Edizioni Musicali Physa.
